Many NLP students are taught that modeling is simply “stepping into a circle” or matching someone’s physiology. While those tools have their place, they often fail when you try to reproduce complex, high-level expertise like strategic business decisions, intricate belief systems, or expert troubleshooting.

And very few NLP Practitioners are ever taught in-depth how to do NLP Belief Work.  This applies whether you’re modeling great beliefs for high performance, or mapping the structure of clients’ problematic or limiting beliefs.

The AI Edge: Where NLP Meets Expert Systems

Before I founded the Mastery InSight Institute, I worked in the field of Artificial Intelligence. My job was to interview Fortune 500 experts, deconstruct their decision-making processes, and build software systems that could “think” like them.

The Knowledge Engineering (KE) Home Study Course is the result of folding years of professional AI expertise into an NLP framework.  It provides the rational, structural framework needed to handle the “messy” data of human subjectivity.

What are some examples of actual applied Modeling?

Let’s look at some examples of real models at work:

• Have you heard of the “Mega-Math” or “Mega-Memory” courses often advertised on television, as collections of genius strategies in particular areas of skill (math & memory skills)? Kevin Trudeau made a boatload of money from sales of these (& other related) courses.
• Most of the “Real Estate” home-study-courses advertised through infomercials are people who modeled their own skill (or others’) at acquiring real estate, no-money-down. Someone helped them package that model in a way that makes it easy to learn.
• There are a number of other examples of Real Estate “Coaches” whose entire programs are based on over-simplified and over-priced uses of NLP.  Ask us privately; those folks get no free advertising from us.
• Sportsmind, in Australia, was an example of the results of an NLP-trained person who modeled sports performance optimization, and then trained those skills to facilitators of his system.  Their site was active for 20+ years but is no longer.
• The “Persuasion Tactics Power Summit” course (& home-study package) was a Persuasion Tactics ‘model’ acquired by Jonathan Altfeld.  The exemplar for this program was an individual very creative with persuasive communication, named Chris Tomasulo.  (Please note: this product is no longer available for sale).

What is a Knowledge Engineer?

A Knowledge Engineer doesn’t just “watch” an expert. Instead, they systematically probe the person’s knowledge-base, and determine how that knowledge is stored and sequenced.  Then, they build a “map” that captures how to reproduce the expert’s behavior or results, consistently.  In this course, we stop oversimplifying modeling. If you think identifying a “Visual” sensory mode is modeling, you’re only doing strategy elicitation. True modeling can take weeks or months of integration; this course gives you the tools to start that journey with precision.

Realistic Expectations:

We do not believe a single NLP Modeling Course (for home study) like this will make you a gifted, master modeler.  However, Knowledge Engineering can help you to hear language so very differently, that you can begin making accurate maps of how people make decisions.  You’ll also begin hearing what criteria are relevant behind beliefs or decisions, that the general public would never know was there, and remained unsaid.  A Knowledge Engineering student… would know to ask critical questions at moments like this.  They would have a foundation for doing genuinely helpful NLP belief work.  And they would know what to do with the information they got back.
